EZ GOES HD: LOCAL TELEVISION PRODUCER ADDS HIGH DEFINITION VIDEO TO LINEUP
Riding the HDTV wave, Colfax, Wisconsin based EZ New Media has upgraded their video editing facility to a full HDTV (High Definition) television production facility with HD cameras, video decks and editing equipment.
"As far as I know, we're one of the only video production companies in Western Wisconsin that is offering this level of HDTV service," said Jim Zons, owner of EZ New Media. "Unlike some of the other local video producers who are ‘dabbling' in the prosumer HDV format, we're equipped with true network or film studio quality uncompressed HD editing. It's light years beyond the prosumer stuff," Zons added.
HDTV's digital signal delivers a picture that is much sharper, clearer and more "film-like" than today's analog standard definition television signal. Congress has mandated that all television broadcasts must be delivered in digital format by the end of the decade which will render most of today's analog television sets obsolete. Many local television stations are broadcasting in HD on a second channel; cable television and both DirecTV and Dish Network deliver programming in HD on special channels.
"Even though we haven't had a lot of call for HDTV production locally," said Zons, "many of our national television clients have been asking for it, so we decided the time was right to upgrade." He added: "I'm sure when some of the Western Wisconsin businesses that are interested in HD know that we have this level HD quality available locally, we'll be hearing from them!"
According to Zons, shooting footage in HD now makes sense for businesses, even if their final production will be delivered in standard definition. He adds: "by shooting the video footage in HD now, we can archive that footage for the future, so when they're ready to have a project finished in HD, their footage won't need to be reshot, resulting in significant cost savings for the business."
